1Jn 2:25-27 “And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life. These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.”
Eternal life: this is the divine assurance of good (promise) that He has asserted concerning himself (promised). The very root of the words “promise” and “promised” point us to God. We have His divine assurance of life that He has given dwelling in us. We have His divine assurance that this life is eternal. He has affirmed this by providing Himself our sacrifice! John tells us that he has not written to persuade us of this truth, but rather to warn us about those that would deceive us.
We have a special endowment (anointing) given us by the Father, through the Son, and revealed by the Holy Spirit. This is not something that is fleeting. It abides (dwells) in us. Our anointing teaches us the truth of God in a way that men’s words never can. This anointing causes us to experience the truth, not just hear it.
This truth is our shield against those that would seduce us. It is given to us from God and is sure and steadfast. The gospel preached to us brings to light the truth that God has put in us. The truth is we have eternal life. We have the ability, by God’s grace, to withstand antichrist. We have the discernment of the Spirit to know the truth from a lie. The truth that abides in us assures us that we abide in Him!
May we hold fast His promise and not be seduced by any spirit of antichrist, but esteem Him all in all!
